Building Materials Guide

DECKING

Building a deck will require you to select a decking material, considering factors such as cost, beauty, durability, and availability.

Wood

  • Most basic, and lowest-cost, deck material is treated softwood such as spruce, pine, or fir

  • Easy to work with because it’s soft which makes it easy to screw down and easier to cut

  • Unmaintained decks are prone to shrinking, warping, and splintering, and cracks can develop

  • Annually sealed/maintained decks last over 25 years

Composite

  • Available in a variety of colors, patterns, grains, and textures

  • Weather, pest, and mold-resistant

  • Besides the initial, one-time investment at installation, it requires little maintenance

  • Composite decking provides a range of environmentally sustainable and eco-friendly options

WALL STONE

A natural stone wall can be hidden in a landscape by its surrounds or can be designed to stand out. That's the beauty of natural stone, it works well in any environment and stands the test of time.

Stacked Stone

  • Stacked stone is not prone to shifting and cracking at different weather cycles

  • They lend a rustic look to your landscaping while complementing all architectural styles

  • Colors and types can be varied to create a unique natural look

  • Perfect for low retaining walls and low seat walls

  • Blocks are made from poured concrete in a wide range of colors, patterns and textures

  • Turns a sloped exterior space into eye catching landscape design with function and beauty

  • Their uniformity can take away from the overall uniqueness of your wall

Masonry

  • Consists of building structures from single units that are laid and bound together with mortar

  • Offers a high resistance against rotting, pests, weather, and natural disasters

  • A disadvantage of building with masonry is the high cost of both materials and labor

  • A variety of colors, patterns and textures compliment any style

PAVING

Adding pavers to your sidewalk, driveway or patio is a great way to improve your home's curb appeal. Well designed pavers can enhance your landscaping, making its overall appearance more attractive.

PA Flagstone

  • A natural, organic look due to their shape and earthy shades of browns, reds, grays and blues

  • Selecting flagstone in a random rectangle pattern is ideal for creating a formal, organized look

  • For a casual appearance, an irregular pattern emphasizes the natural shape of the stone

  • Flagstone is expensive, many homeowners choose to use it in conjunction with other materials

  • Laid easily in any kind of weather, keep budgeting and time management issues in check

  • Eco-friendly product that can retain its finish and color for a long period of time
